Karnataka Won Ranji
Trophy 2013-14
Karnataka on 2 February defeated Maharashtra by
seven wickets to win the Ranji Trophy 2013-14 at Hyderabad. Karnataka, while
chasing a target of 157 runs on the last and fifth day of the tournament was
successful to clinch winning by losing only three wickets in the second
innings. Karnataka bowlers R Vinay Kumar and Shreyash Gopal claimed four
wickets each. The remaining two wickets of Maharashtra team were taken by
Abhimanyu Mithun.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman Died
Philip Seymour Hoffman, who won a best actor
Oscar in 2006 for his portrayal of writer Truman Capote in “Capote†and
created a gallery of other vivid characters, many of them slovenly and slightly
dissipated comic figures, died on 2 February. He was nominated for Oscars four
times in all. In “The Master,†he was nominated for the 2013 Academy Award
for best supporting actor for his role as the charismatic leader of a religious
movement. The film, partly inspired by the life of Scientology founder L. Ron
Hubbard, reunited the actor with Anderson.
